Inside Altar Pottery

Altar Pottery is a welcoming ceramics studio based in John Archer Hall, Toxteth , a place where anyone can discover the joy of working with clay, no matter their experience. Whether you’re completely new to pottery or looking to deepen your practice, our studio offers a relaxed, supportive space to learn, explore and create at your own pace.

With well-equipped facilities, friendly tutors, and a community that values curiosity over perfection, our sessions are designed to be enjoyable, hands-on and confidence-building. We believe pottery should feel accessible, rewarding and fun from the very first touch of clay.

At Altar Pottery, we see making as more than a skill; it’s a way to slow down, connect with yourself and support personal wellbeing. By encouraging experimentation, shared learning and collaboration, we aim to grow an open and diverse creative community that contributes meaningfully to Liverpool’s rich and evolving cultural life.

Please note that evening classes are not accessible to absolute beginners. Individuals with no previous experience need to attend an introductory level workshop first. These are run monthly and are announced through our online newsletter. Please sign up and stay tuned. Find out more about the introductory sessions here.
